Fatima – Kathpedia 00:14 | Fatima, die portugiesische Stadt der Wunder, ist eine der drei wichtigsten Stätten für Katholiken in Europa, direkt nach dem Vatikan und dem Heiligtum Unserer Lieben Frau von Lourdes, in Frankreich. Aus einer kleinen Pfarrei, die im 16. Jahrhundert gegründet wurde, wurde sie 1916 berühmt, nachdem die Jungfrau Maria dort drei Hirtenkindern - Lucia, Francisco und Jacinta - beim Spielen erschienen war. Allein 2016, während der Feierlichkeiten zu 100 Jahren Erscheinung, besuchten über 5 Millionen Menschen Fatima. Alle zwei Jahre besuchen etwa 4 Millionen Menschen Fatima, von denen viele am 13. Mai, dem Jahrestag der Sichtung, kommen. Fatima ist heute eine Stadt mit etwa 10.000 Einwohnern, 15 Kapellen und Basiliken und einem großen Platz, auf dem die wichtigsten Feste stattfinden.
